Aggala Recipe
A traditional Sri Lankan sweet treat made with rice flour and honey, perfect for teatime snacks!
---
Ingredients
250 g Nadu rice (ground into flour)
Honey (as needed)
A pinch of pepper powder (optional, for a hint of spice)
A pinch of salt
Method
1. Prepare the Rice Flour:
Wash the Nadu rice and dry it thoroughly.
Grind the rice into a fine flour and sift it through a strainer to remove any lumps.
2. Cook the Honey Mixture:
In a saucepan, heat the honey on the stove. Add a pinch of salt and pepper powder if desired.
Simmer the mixture until it thickens slightly.
3. Combine Rice Flour and Honey:
Gradually mix the sifted rice flour into the thickened honey while stirring continuously.
Add a little more flour if the mixture is too sticky, ensuring a dough-like consistency.
4. Shape the Aggala:
Once the dough cools slightly, knead it well.
Roll the dough into small balls, coating each with a light dusting of rice flour to prevent sticking.
5. Serve or Store:
Let the Aggala cool completely and firm up.
Store in an airtight container for freshness.
