Sesame Balls (Thala bola)
A healthy and delicious Sri Lankan sweet snack made with sesame seeds and jaggery. Perfect for an energy boost!
Ingredients
250 g sesame seeds
500 g jaggery (grated)
A pinch of salt
Method
1. Prepare the Sesame Seeds:
Toast the sesame seeds lightly in a dry pan over low heat until aromatic.
Transfer the seeds to a mortar and pestle or grinder, and grind them coarsely.
2. Mix with Jaggery:
Add the grated jaggery to the ground sesame seeds and mix well.
Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.
3. Shape the Balls:
Knead the mixture thoroughly until it binds together.
Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into bite-sized balls with your hands.
4. Serve or Store:
Let the sesame balls cool completely before serving.
Store in an airtight container to keep them fresh for longer.
TIPS
Wet your hands lightly with water if the mixture sticks while shaping the balls.
Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of jaggery.
